Rubidium
- - State of matter at room temperature is a solid.
- - Number of valence electrons is 1.
- - Rubidium is a soft metal, silvery-white, and can be stretched out into wire without breaking (ductile).
- - Density= 1.532 g/cm3.
- - Good Thermal and electrical conductivity.
- - Rubidium tarnishes when exposed to air, reacts with water to form corrosive rubidium, and is a flammable gas.
- - Rubidium is not essential for life.
- - Important use:
- 1= special glasses
- 2= photocells
- 3= propellant in ion engines in a spacecraft
- - Research= analyzing amount of rubidium in cerebro spinal fluid. There is less rubidium in Alzheimer's patients.
